Dr. Carmel O’Toole has been in general practice more than 30 years and has post-graduate qualification in health professional education. In addition to being a highly-regarded general practitioner, she founded Boroondara Health and Wellness Centre in 1995 which she managed until successfully selling her business in 2019. Since then, Dr. O’Toole has devoted herself to ADHD education while continuing to work in the practice she founded. Dr. O’Toole not only understands ADHD, she understands every element of what it is like to live and breathe General Practice. Dr. O’Toole believes that deeply listening and connecting to your patients is an essential strategy to achieving real patient outcomes and, throughout the course, will be guiding you towards creating deeper and more fulfilling relationships with your patients. Through her approach she has been able to sustain a long and satisfying career and has been able to positively impact many lives. Dr. O’Toole understands the personal, professional and emotional burden most GPs experience . She draws from this place of understanding to deliver education which translates beyond the consulting room to help you improve your relationship with your work, and longevity as a practitioner. During her tenure as a practice director and manager, Dr. O’Toole’s practice was consistently ranked in or above the 95% in AGPAL accreditation report surveys and Dr. O’Toole herself achieved scores ranging from 97-99% for her individual performance in her most recent evaluations. She looks forward to getting to know you throughout the course and helping you build a deeper connection to your practice and your patients. She is the co-founder of the RACGP Special Interest Group in ADHD & Neurodivergence, a member of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) and prominent contributor in the Victorian Adult-ADHD interest group (VAADHDIG) and Australasian Adult-ADHD Interest Group (AAADHDIG) over the years. Like many women, Dr. O’Toole has also navigated the difficulty of working in General Practice while raising a family and has the lived experience of neurodivergent families (including all that this entails). She is not only a highly regarded practitioner but also an accomplished practice manager. She is familiar therefore not just with what occurs within the waiting room but also with every facet which goes into running a successful and sustainable practice. Dr. O’Toole (or Carmel as you will come to know her) look forward to sharing with you all that she has learned over her rich career in ADHD-focused General Practice so far.
